I received this e-mail today: October 14, 2004
Hi Sam. I am Joe Palminteri, one of the younger brothers of Frank Palminteri. I found your e-mail address from the Serra 68 website. Thank you for providing it. Frank passed away this week at the age of 53. He had been diagnosed in late July with a fatal brain disorder disease called Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease. There are four variations to this disease, one of them is MAD COW. Frank, however, did not have that variation. There is no cure for this disease and modern medicine does not know how people get it. It affects one in one million. I can talk to you about it at another time or communicate through e-mail. Sam, Frank has many found memories of Serra High School, as I do, even though I never attended. I think you should know that even back in 1968, I was a regular attendee at the basketball and football games because Frank encouraged me to go and I loved sports just like he did. My other older brother, Chris, attended Serra High School as well and was a standout football player (3 year starter on the Varsity) as well as the manager of the basketball team. I received a scholarship from St. Francis Cabrini Elementary School to attend Serra High School, which had been my goal in order to follow in my brother's footsteps. Unfortunately, we moved to O.C. immediately after I received the scholarship.
Sam, Frank always spoke so highly of his friends from Serra and names that came up during conversations over the years were Tim Philen, Richard Barker, Phil Randazzo, and Bill Buchanan.
Not knowing where everyone lives, although my family was close to the Buchanans and I have been in contact with Bill, I want you to have the information for the services. It is below.

I do not know if Frank attended the most recent reunion, but, in the event that you were not able to contact Frank to see where he was, what he had been up to, etc., here is a brief synopsis. Frank taught High School U.S. History and coached basketball for nearly 30 years at Royal High School in Simi Valley, St. Bonaventure High School in Ventura County, Villa Park High School in Orange County, Don Lugo, Diamond Bar, and Ayala High School in San Bernadino County. In the late 90's, while at Ayala High School, he won back to back league titles, both with undefeated league records. He also coached at U.C. Davis in Northern California while attending Cal State Sacramento to finish his Masters Degree in Education. He is survived by his wife Colleen and two stepsons from her previous marriage.
Please feel free to contact me by cell phone (below) or e-mail. Please see if you can get this information to those who you think would be interested including, but not limited to, those that I have mentioned above.
